Fredericksburg Dairy Days -- the second Wednesday of June -- the summer of 2011 will be the 87th Annual Dairy Day!   It has been said, "That this is the day where the Town of a 1,000 becomes a Town of 10,000".  Come join in the fun!!
          This event begins on the Tuesday before with midway rides, street sports for the kids, the Old Timers Softball Game with Fireworks following the game.  
          The fun continues on Wednesday with a morning and evening parade (one of the biggest parades around), midway rides & amusements and entertainment for young & old.  After the night parade is the crowing of the Chickasaw County Dairy Princess and Little Miss Squirt.

Dairy Days Festivities will be hosted at the Fredericksburg Elementary Grounds - The Dairy Day Board would like to announce that due to construction at the middle school, Merriams Mid-Way and the Food Stands have moved to the Fredericksburg Elementary School.  These food stand groups include the Sumner-Fredericksburg Booster Club food stand, the Lion’s Club Bingo Stand, the FFA Alumni Moo-Mobile, the 4-H bratwurst stand, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Funnel Cake Stand.  The stage will be located by the basketball courts.  The Dairy Day Board would like to thank community members, the City of Fredericksburg, and various community organizations for making this move as easy as possible.  More information to come regarding the parade route and line-up.  Thank you for every one’s hard work to make Dairy Days even better this year!   

 

 

Dairy Days T-Shirts for Sale and Dairy Days Memories DVD - 2011 Peace, Love, Dairy Day T-Shirts are available at the Hardware Hub in Fredericksburg and at Tom’s Pharmacy in New Hampton.  Shirts come in a variety of tie dyed colors and sizes.  Shirts cost $15.00 each, get your shirt before supplies run out!  Also, the first part of Dairy Days Memories DVD is available for purchase for $20.00.  Part One covers the beginning of Dairy Days up until 1950.  Part 2 will be released and available for purchase on June 7th, 2011.  Part two will cover from 1950 until the present day.  If you would like to buy a copy please contact Mary King at 563-237-5823.

Car Show - Fredericksburg Dairy Days will feature a car show during the 2011 celebration.  It will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2011 from 4:00 - 6:30 pm. Please contact Jeremy Westendorf at 319-239-4631 to pre-register.  There will be 2 categories.  Classic cruisers 1954 and older and Muscle class 1955 and newer. All registrants will be placed in the parade if they so choose.  We welcome all to enter.  Please contact Jeremy Westendorf at 319-239-4631 to pre-register.   

 

Dairy Kick-Off Breakfast - The Fredericksburg Dairy Day Board will be hosting a kick-off breakfast on June 7, 2011 at the Farm House Bed and Breakfast from 7-9 AM.  Dairy Day Honorees will be introduced at this breakfast.  Dairy Days Memories part I and part II will be available for purchase. The Dairy Day Quilt Raffle and Poker Run will also begin at this time. Come socialize with community members and get ready for another GREAT dairy days!  There is no cost however free will donation is greatly appreciated.

 

Photography Contest - Due to popular demand, the Dairy Day Board and Upham Memorial Library will again be holding a photography contest.  Registration is open to the public and all ages are welcome.  Photos need to be of the 8 x 10 size and of any subject.  Registration deadline is May 15, 2011.  To register or for further information please contact Sarah Westendorf at 319-239-4476.  All entries must be dropped of by Tuesday May 24th, at 2:00 pm at the Upham Memorial Library for display.  1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced after the night parade at the coronation ceremony. 

 

Milking Contest - The annual Dairy Days milking contest will take place on June 7, 2011 at the football field directly after the ever-popular street sports and ice cream judging contest.  The milking cow will be sponsored by HMCI/Stardell Farms.  Bill Klassen, last year’s champion will be back again this year to defend his title.  This year’s winner will receive the traveling milk can and be announced the winner at many of the dairy day festivities.  If you would like to participate in this event please contact Adam Kleiss at 319-269-5511 by May 15, 2011.

 

Dueling Pianos to Perform at Dairy Days 2011 - The Dairy Day Board would like to announce that the main entertainment for Dairy Days 2011 will be Dueling Pianos International from Minneapolis, Minnesota.  This group will bring a high level of performing talent with an interactive crowd sing a long format.  This will be hosted at the Elementary School  in the stage area.   This main entertainment will begin directly after the coronation of the 2011-2012 Dairy Day Princesses and 2011 Dairy Day winners.

 

Poker Run - Dairy Days first ever Poker Run will be sponsored by Agrigold Hybrids and will be held Tuesday, June 7th and Wednesday, June 8th of Dairy Days 2011.  Poker Run Players can visit various locations through out Dairy Days to win the best hand. Each location will be color-coded so that contestants will need to have one card from all five locations.  Five card hands will then be turned in at the final table and the winners will be announced Wednesday night before the main entertainment Dueling Pianos International.  The event kicks off at the Dairy Kick Off Breakfast located at the Farm House Bed and Breakfast at 8:30 AM on June 7th, 2011.  Other locations include the Dairy Show, Car Show, Street Sports, and the Bill Riley Talent Show.  The first place winner will win $100.00, second place winners will win $50, and third place winners will receive $25.00. Dairy Day Quilt Raffle - The Dairy Day Board along with Lavonne Hartson, Sheryl Mulder, Mary Ball, Myrna Moore, Doreen Cook, and Leslie Feike will be sponsoring a Dairy Day Quilt Raffle this year.  These ladies have been hard at work making a quilt that represents Dairy Days Heritage. This group welcomes any interested member of the community to drop a quilt block off at Lavonne Hartson’s home.  For measurements regarding the quilt block please contact Lavonne Hartson.  The actual Dairy Day Quilt Raffle will begin at the Dairy Kick-Off Breakfast on June 7th, 2011 at the Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast.   The raffle will continue at various Dairy Day event locations. Ice Cream Judging Contest

 

Where: Fredericksburg Football Field

When:  Tuesday June 7th, 2011

Time:  6:30 pm

 

Judging starts at 8:30 pm

 

Rules for contestants:

 

* Any amateur ice cream maker can compete!  It is open to the general public and there is no age restrictions or divisions.

 

 

*  Contestants must supply their own equipment, table and ice cream making supplies.

 

*  Ingredients can be either premade mixes or from "scratch".  Please be aware that this event is outside. Contestants must provide their own cooler and can only use pasteurized milk for safetly purposes.  On site freezers for the finished product are provides and ice is available for purchase.

 

* Each table must have an 8 x 10 page of ingredients used when judging starts.

 

* the finished product will be served to judges by the contestants and winners will be announced.

For anyone wanting to be a judge for the ice cream contest be at the football field at 8:15 pm June 7th. 

Judges will choose their favorite ice cream and place votes in a milk can.
